KEYWORDS

If you're new to the world of Hemp and CBD it can perhaps be overwhelming at times. Different companies use different terms depending on what they're selling and whilst not being misleading it can be confusing trying to find exactly what you need.

For example some brands use the wording "Pure CBD". This may sound great but it can be misleading. If its not initially clear on the label and you have to read the ingredients for clarity..I'd think twice. Usually in this instance it would be made with CBD isolate which can be beneficial for some but doesn't contain any additional properties such as terpenes and additional phyto-cannabinoids like a Full or Broad Spectrum CBD product.

Below are a list of key terms and words which should help with understanding a product.

BIOAVAILABLILTY

The proportion of a substance or drug that enters the blood stream can be used by the body.

BROAD SPECTRUM CBD

CBD which has retained a full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids found in the hemp plant minus THC.

CO2 EXTRACTION

CO2 extraction is a process that uses pressurised carbon dioxide to pull the desired phyto chemicals from a plant. In the world of cannabis, the process pulls all of the essential cannabinoids, terpene oils and waxes out of the plant material. CO2 extraction is also much better for the environment. CO2 gas is natural, so if it escapes into the air during extraction it won't do any harm. It can also be recycled, making this method much more sustainable. Since the solvent isn't toxic, people working with this extraction method don't face any health risks.

CAPSULES

An alternative to oil. Perfect if you want a measured dose or if you don't like the taste of oil - as capsules don't touch taste receptors.

CBD [CANNABIDIOL]

The most abundant cannabinoid in hemp. It can be used to treat anxiety & depression, control seizures whilst also being in pain management as an anti inflammatory.

CBD ISOLATE

Almost pure CBD crystalline where all cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids have been completely removed.

CBD OIL

Hemp extract rich in CBD that has been mixed with a carrier oil such as hemp seed oil or MCT coconut oil.

CBD TOPICALS

Refers to products used on the skin such as creams, lotions and balms.

FULL SPECTRUM CBD

CBD which has retained a full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids found in the hemp plant. Also contains levels of THC

HEMP SEED OIL

Made from the seeds of the hemp plant. A nutritious oil rich containing essential fatty acids such as omega 3,6 and healthy proteins.

HOMEOSTASIS

Homeostasis is a key element in the biology of all living things. It is best described as the ability to maintain stable internal conditions that are necessary for survival. Disease is a result of failing to achieve homeostasis.

MCT OIL

MCT oil is a supplement made from a type of fat called medium-chain triglycerides. These fast-absorbing fats are one of the fastest sources of clean fuel for body and brain.

TERPENES

Organic compounds found in plants and flowers responsible for their own unique aroma. Terpenes can also have an effect on the body such as relaxing the nervous system. Linalool for instance, found in lavender, has a calming, sedative effect. Limonene, a terpene found in citrus fruits and peppermint, has a mood-elevating effect, while pinene, found in sage and conifers has been shown to aid in alertness and memory retention.

THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM [THE ECS]

The Endocannabinoid system is involved with many basic functions. Regulation of all biological activities including appetite, sleep, reproduction, memory, mood, immune system and cell growth.  It also affects a number of physiological processes including circulation, energy metabolism and organ function.

THE ENTOURAGE EFFECT

The entourage effect happens when CBD is ingested with other phyto cannabinoids, terpenes and compounds from the cannabis plant - working together to produce a more effective result. By using the whole hemp plant rather than a singular aspect, there's a boost in the health benefits and overall therapeutic effect.
